Why You Can't Afford To Be An Employee in America

by Sopan Greene, M.A.

"Mr. Robert Jackson died yesterday of complications from doing a lifetime of crap that he didn't really want to do. His condition was further complicated because he also failed to do much, if any, of what he did want to do. Experts report that he died from cramming someone else's idea of life into his body, his brain, and his life...Miserable in his last years, he passed unpeacefully yesterday at his home. He was surrounded by colleagues from the job he hated, and family members who were all just as miserable as he was." (excerpt from Self Matters by Phillip C. McGraw, Ph.D.)

Does this sound familiar? I hope not, but it may.

If you're an employee and you care about your future then you better be wondering. The latest statistics on life in the good 'ole USA tell a frightening but true story.

In America, after 40 years of working this is what life looks like today:

Which means that 92% of the working American population can look forward to being dead or dead broke when they are 60 years old. This doesn't mention that they were also miserable for 40 years on their way to becoming dead or dead broke. Is that your future?

Are these people that much different than you? No! They just have different values of how to invest in (not spend) their time, energy and money.

60% of American families are living at or below the poverty level as I write this. That's 140 Million people.

Over 50,000 jobs are cut each year. In the last four months of 2001 the U.S. Labor Department reported that 1.1 MILLION nonfarm jobs were eliminated. That wasn't for the year, that was only for four months!

Parents have it rougher than singles do. 1 out of 5 parents works 2 jobs.

Women have it even rougher than men do. Nearly half of working mothers are single parents working 2 jobs.

Children are left to be raised by strangers, which kind of defeats the purpose of being a parent. 74% of children in the U.S. are cared for by people other than their parents for most of each week.

So now you're depressed and thinking, "Why did I read this guy's article?" Well, you read it because nothing in life is all good or all bad. Besides that, ignorance may be bliss, but not if you want a better life my friend. It's time to exit fantasyland.

Are you ready for the good news in all of this? As we've all been reminded recently, life is short and we are fortunate to have the freedoms and resources we do in this country. Don't be one of the hundreds of millions who ignore this priveledge and blame others for why they don't have the life they want.

If you're not satisfied with your life, change it. You have free will to live your life as you choose. You can use this free will to join the ranks of the wealthy if you're willing to do what they did to become wealthy.

Simply take control of your time. Trade in those TV and video game playing hours for productive time creating your own home based business. Is it worth it to you to give up some unproductive hours to build a better future for you and your family?

74% of the wealthy own their own business. If you're not expecting a big inheritance any time soon, this is your ticket. It takes some vision, discipline, and time, but it's waiting for you if you want it bad enough.

Don't sell 40 years of your life to be on the j.o.b. (just over broke) treadmill as a worker bee making someone else money. Put your free time to good use when you're not at your j.o.b. Take responsibility for creating the life you really want. You know, one with freedom.

The statistics above show that only 5% of all American employees are financially secure or wealthy by the time they are 60.

"Out of the 40 Richest people under 40, over half made their fortune on the internet" -Fortune Magazine

Believe it or not, so can you!! Every day the internet offers more opportunities to start your own home based business. Even better, it gets easier everyday because the pioneers of internet marketing keep developing new, better, simpler and automated ways to make money online.

Once again, forget about wealthy. If you only end up making your current income but can do it on your own time from home how would you like that? You'll do much better than that if you're serious, but even that life would be better, wouldn't it?

Your life will be a statistic. The question is which statistic will it be: an employee taking orders who ends up dead broke or a business owner who is in control of life and is financially secure well before the age of 60. It's up to you. Make your choice and take some action.
