Brits' Appetite for Slimming Products Increases

by Martin Hofschroer

More and more British people are buying slimming products in a bid to get into shape, according to a new study.

Research by shopping and price comparison website mySupermarket.co.uk revealed that more people than ever are willing to spend on slimming goods as a way to fight the flab.

Jonny Steel, spokesman for the website, told the Daily Mail that Britain's appetite for products such as t5 slimming pills and t5 fat burners is likely to grow as people become more comfortable with taking them.

He told the publication: "The demand by consumers for slimming products has seen sales dramatically increase for some of the leading brands.

"We anticipate that sales of these products will continue to grow as adults see them as one of the easier options to help them lose weight."

The investigation also found that some regions in the UK were happier to splash out on slimming products compared to others.

People from cities in the North-West such as Manchester and Liverpool spent the most on slimming products with an annual spend per household of £91.14.

Jonny Steel attributed the high spending amount in the North-West to women who idolise the wives and girlfriends of famous footballers.

"Our data shows that 'Wag-tastic' cities in the North-West spend more on slimming products than any other region," Mr Steel told the Mail.

London residents spent an average of £85.25 on slimming products every year while Yorkshire folk spent the least out of every region in the UK with an annual spend of just £81.48.

The survey also discovered that slimming products may be even more popular next month as women are more likely to spend on t5 slimming pills and t5 fat burners during June in an attempt to sculpt the best bikini body possible.

Slimming product sales are also high during January because many people make New Year weight loss resolutions after piling on the pounds during the festive period.

People looking at how to lose weight fast may want to try appetite suppressant products as research by a team at Melbourne's Flinders University found that food cravings distract people from concentrating on other tasks.

The researchers argued in the journal Current Directions in Psychological Science that food cravings could have dangerous results as they increase the chance of accidents.

"In practice even small reductions in cognitive resources have the potential to compromise optimal performance in everyday situations, thereby reducing work efficiency or increasing the likelihood of accidents," stated the report.

It is estimated that the total slimming product market in the UK is worth in the region of £2 billion.
