RFID ON NARROW WEB PRESSES

by Martin Williams

A smart label research and demonstration centre has been opened by Mark Andy and Tamarack Products. Located at Tamarack’s facility in Wauconda, Illinois, it houses a Mark Andy Model 2200 press equipped with the Tamarack P500 RFID module to demonstrate RFID tag insertion in-line with complete label printing production.

Most smart labels are produced from standard label stock, with an RFID transponder embedded between the facestock and the release liner. Uses include shipping/inventory control, baggage identification, item theft deterrence, parcel tracking, and document tracking.

“RFID promises to be a large part of the world’s future. Mark Andy is taking the necessary steps to be a leading solution provider”, states Ken Daming, director of product management.

Tamarack’s P500 RFID affixing module is said to integrate cleanly into Mark Andy presses. It will affix all transponder sizes at web speeds of up to 500ft/min.
