For creating, a Private Radio Networks (PRN) there is a need of radio modems. The Private Radio Network is used in industries for intense applications, when real-time data communication is needed. They set the Radio data Modem users independent of satellite network or telecommunication operators. Users are using licensed frequencies in either UHF or VHF band. The licensed frequency restricts the user in certain area thus reducing the interference problems from other RF transmitters. The Factors affecting radio performance depends on antenna height and type, sensitivity of the radio, the output power of the radio and the complete system design. Basically a Radio Modem transmits data several kilometres over a wireless connection to another radio modem over a point- to – point multipoint link. 100 km Range: - The range in which the Radio Modems operates varies and depends on the transmission power, antenna gain and its height and external environment. For example if we talk about rural areas a 1W Radio Modem with a line of sight radio link may range over 20 km and even up to 60 km in exceptionally harsh environment. If density is increased like in metropolitan areas, a corresponding range may vary from several kilometres to over 10 km. With a 10 W, radio Modem, a range of max 100 Km can be achieved in favourable environments. For covering broader areas Modem repeaters are used often. Its zone of applications has reached to biomedical and termed as Biomedical telemetry or biotelemetry which provides a means for transmitting physiological or biological information from one website to another for data collection. In small towns use of telemetry solutions is for reading the electric meter from the truck as it drives by your house. It has reduced the cost in reading the electric meter as opposed to having a person walk from house to house and spending more time in recording and collectiong data. In this way the new technologies of Radio Modem and Telemetry Solutions are increasing their potential.
