What Most People Don't Know About Unwanted Hair
Permanent Hair Removal By Electrolysis
“I’m the hairiest person in the world!”
In my many years of business, I have heard this statement from nearly every new client who comes into my office. Usually they go on to tell me it’s because they are Italian, Indian, Jewish, Spanish, Irish, Greek, Asian, or some other nationality. I have come to find it very difficult not to laugh when I hear it. Not that it’s funny, but let me assure you: in all 35 years that I have been practicing electrolysis in New York City, I have yet to be shocked by the amount of hair someone presents to me.
The humorous thing to me is how many of us (mostly women) are self conscious and critical of our body images, when we really don’t even know what is considered normal or abnormal! If you’re reading this article, it’s likely that you may be interested in the subject because you are concerned about unwanted hair or you may actually be thinking that you have more hair than anyone else. There’s a pretty good chance that you’re absolutely wrong!
There are unexpected places on the body that it’s very natural to have hair; many women are alarmed when they discover hair in these locations because they have no way of knowing it is common. A prime example of this is breast hair. It is very normal for a woman to have hair on her breasts! When someone comes into my office and asks coyly, “What other areas do you work on?” I always mention breast hair because usually that is what they are inquiring about, and they are relieved when they find out they are not alone! While it is normal to have hair on your breasts and other parts of the body, it is also perfectly safe if you choose remove unwanted hair with electrolysis.
Hormonal changes also affect hair growth. It is very common for a woman to see more facial hair growth after discontinuing the use of birth control pills. When a woman of child bearing age comes into my office and tells me that they have suddenly noticed more hair growth on their face, I am inclined to ask if they recently went off the pill: most often the answer is yes!
Because having facial hair can be frightening and embarrassing, many women will do anything they can to remove it as quickly as possible. I cannot stress enough that you must avoid tweezing, waxing or threading facial hair! When you pull out hair on your face, you will stimulate hair growth. This means you will have to have electrolysis at some point because the hair will get worse and worse. It is safe to cut, shave, bleach or use a depilatory cream because those options remove hair at the skin surface and won’t make the problem worse. Electrolysis is also a permanent solution to these problems.
If you are experiencing hair growth on places of your body that make you feel uncomfortable, electrolysis can help you. It is a permanent solution to your unwanted hair. Electrolysis is safe for everyone, even pregnant women! Unlike temporary solutions like cutting, shaving, depilatory creams or bleaching, the electrolysis process will remove your unwanted hair forever, even if you are “the hairiest person in the world!”
