Follow These Yoga Instructor Ethics For A Better Experience
Whether an experienced yoga instructor or someone who is just curious about the possibility of becoming a yoga instructor, it is important to understand that there is an awesome responsibility as a yoga instructor. An instructor leads groups of people in numbers of five, all the way up to 20 or 30 at a time, and they guide these groups through series of exercises that strengthen their bodies, increase their flexibility and do wonders for their psyches. By keeping the following tips in mind, yoga instructors will be able to strictly adhere to a defined set of yoga instructor ethics that will keep people coming back to class and leaving with clear minds.
Non-harming
As a yoga instructor leading people through series of difficult stretches and exercises, it is important to keep in mind that not everyone is able to work at the same level. Instructors must be able to keep their full attention on each student in the room to monitor the various exertion levels while also providing alternative stretches for people who are unable to complete each stretch. Having someone hurt themself goes against the practice of yoga, as it is meant to be a peaceful exercise to clear the mind and body.
Truthfulness
Yoga instructors must always be truthful with the group that they are leading, and avoid telling any lies or half-truths. Yoga class should also be a place where people feel safe to discuss what is going on in their lives, and once they see that the instructor lied about something, they may not feel quite so comfortable sharing personal details with the class. If not feeling well or if experiencing difficulties in life, it is best if a yoga instructor feels comfortable telling the class the truth without delving too deep if that is not the goal of the class.
Non-stealing
Since yoga classes are meant to be a sort of meditation for many people, yoga instructors must be careful to create an environment where nobody feels as though they are going to have anything stolen from them. Lockers shouldn't be necessary in a yoga classroom if everyone mutually respects each other. In addition to this, yoga instructors must be careful in how they deal with the finances of their classes so people do not feel misguided as to wear their money is going.
Greedlessness
As someone who is running a business in addition to a yoga class, instructors must be wary of what they are charging for their classes. People may easily perceive an instructor to be greedy if they are continuously raising prices or including hidden fees. This is against the basic principles of yoga, and instructors should be able to keep their money in order.
Being a yoga instructor can be one of the most rewarding experiences in ones life if the profession is treated with respect and courtesy. Classes mean a lot of things for a lot of different people, which makes it important that instructors have a clear code of ethics that they follow to ensure everyone's happiness in the class.
