Finding The Best Spot For Your Wall Fountain

by Chris Gill

Wall water fountains have a dramatic impact on your interior décor. Nothing else combines sound and motion the same way. A properly placed wall fountain becomes a signature household or office piece without dominating the area so much that it gets in the way of feeling at ease. This begs the question: Where are the best places to put a wall-mounted water fountain? Using their extensive experience in the field, the staff at fountain retailer Serenity Health offers the following advice to anyone interested in adding a wall water fountain to their home or office interiors.

Basic Wall Fountain Placement: Support and Moisture

The two basic things to consider when adding a water fountain to your interior are the strength of the supporting wall and the effect the fountain’s moisture will have on the area surrounding the fountain. A properly installed, quality wall fountain won’t leak, but there will be a slight mist of moisture. This is why you should keep your wall fountain slightly clear of wood furniture. If the mounting wall is wood, or certain kinds of plaster you may want to choose another location. When it comes to support, you have to be sure the wall will support the weight of the fountain. You should also make sure the wall is mostly perpendicular to the ground to avoid setting the wall fountain on a slant. These considerations will rule out a few spots in your home, but they’ll make others more attractive. For example, wall fountains often accompany plants well, and are a great addition to any corner of the house that tends to get a little dry.

Making Room for Your Wall Fountain

Wall fountains are great for homes and small offices because they’re about the most space-efficient water fountains you can get, but you need to make a bit of room for them. People should be able to walk by the wall fountain with enough clearance to take in the whole thing – don’t put it in a space so cramped that the fountain fills someone’s entire field of vision. Furthermore, it’s a major part of the space’s design and shouldn’t be a transitional spot like a hallway unless it’s wide and furnished so that someone can sit and appreciate it. Give visitors a chance to appreciate your wall fountain.

Giving Your Fountain Light and Height

All water fountains look their best in the presence of natural light. If you can’t manage that, artificial full spectrum lighting is an excellent alternative, or diffuse light from multiple sources. These options showcase the wall fountain’s water best. Bright natural light brings out the clarity of the water, while diffuse, standard indoor lighting plays up its reflective qualities. If you must go with normal light bulbs consider a copper wall fountain, as it will pick up the light as a warm glow.

Great lighting won’t be effective if the wall fountain is too high or low. You want to avoid a situation where the top of the fountain is significantly below head height, but you don’t want it so high up that the bottom of the fountain is up above your waist. These are general guidelines, however, because the wall fountain’s dimensions will change what you can get away with. For the most part, however, the fountain should have a height matching its importance as a piece of décor. If other furniture pieces threaten to “bury” it at a given height, raise it up – but not so high that it stands apart from a unified interior design.
