5 Signs That Postcards Are Done Too Much
Ever get carried away with your designs for postcard printing? Sometimes this does happen and if you are really unlucky it might have spelled the death sentence for our postcard printing and marketing campaign. If you go “too much” with some types of color postcard designs, you can expect some violent reactions and of course total failure and regret in printing postcards.
That is why right now, I am going to give you the five signs of color postcards that are done too much. Use these items as a sign to change your method in designing for color postcards, so that you can ensure that it isn’t too much.
1. When it is TOO colourful – While full color postcards are mandatory for marketing, using color themes and images that are too colourful is actually a very bad sign. Why? Well this is because, using too much color can usually make a postcard look too loud or gaudy, leading people to actually ignore it.
If it seems like there is too much going on, readers typically think that there is something “up” with that marketing postcard. So it is best to do things more natural with your color postcards and create a decent theme with two to three colors as the main choices.
2. When it is TOO small – Another sign of postcards that have been done too much are the ones that are too small. When you do use unconventional postcard templates with small sizes sometimes you will have trouble getting it picked up.
When people see it in their mailbox, they might identify it as a postcard, but will most likely ignore it because of its stature. It might be cost effective to print the smallest postcards possible, however, this will severely threaten your marketing potential. So do not go too far with the CHEAPNESS in postcard printing. Invest in more standard templates.
3. When there are folds and other unnecessary elements – You probably overdid your color postcards if there are other folds and other unnecessary elements like holes, studs or even odd edges. While this can make your postcards look unique, this will probably hamper your potential to use the postal service as they will more likely reject your postcards outright.
Moreover, with these odd folds and elements, people might actually mistake your postcard for something else. When this happens, you will run into an unknown factor here where there can be a tendency to get real odd and negative reviews about your prints because people actually can’t identify what it is.
4. When there is too much going on in the cover – Your postcards may also have gone too far if there is just too much going on in the cover. The cover of a good postcard will typically have one scene, one main object or feature and one dominant message and emotion. If you put in more than those elements, this can actually confuse your readers and ultimately not give them the main impression that you want through your postcards. So try to always have one main concept and message in your postcard cover designs.
5. When there is too much going on in the back – Finally, if you also have lots of content going on in the back, you might risk making postcards that are just too much. Especially if you are already inserting paragraphs and paragraphs of content in the back. That is a big NO for postcard printing as this will just lead to people NOT READING the back of the postcard. So make sure that you be short and concise with your content in postcard printing.
Good! Now you know the signs to watch out for in postcard printing. You should be able now to detect if your postcard printing has been done right or if it has gone too far.
