Different types of prescription eyeglasses

A prescription eyeglass is mainly needed by someone who has some sort of an eye problem. This is when an optometrist diagnoses your symptoms and then the actual cause of the problem and depending upon everything prescribes a certain type of lens. There are primarily four categories of prescription eyeglasses.

• The first of them are the single Vision Lens which is mainly characterized with having the same power from the top to the bottom of the lens. People suffering from astigmatism, presbyopia and myopia can go for the use of these lenses in order to correct these vision problems. Astigmatism is a disease when enough light does not reflect on your retina and thus images are visualized distortedly.

• Then comes the bifocal lenses which are mainly used to correct the problem of presbyopia. This disorder happens when people suffer problems of nearsightedness. This is a vision disorder which usually tends to arise after 40 years of age. When a person is diagnosed with presbyopia it is difficult for them to focus on close objects. This is when one can take the help of bifocals. It helps you to see distant objects from the top of the lens and through the bottom portion of the lens you can correct your close vision. It should be always kept in mind that people with presbyopia has to accommodate both types of focal view on their lenses.

• The third type of lenses is the trifocal lenses. These lenses have a unique feature of three focal points and are very similar to the bifocal lenses. The three focal points include the top of the lens which helps to see the distant objects, the lower part of the lens which helps in seeing the near objects and the middle part which provides the intermediate vision.

• The fourth types of lens available in the market are the multifocal lenses. These lenses also have more than one point of focus. The bifocal lenses and the trifocal lenses are types of multifocal lenses.

The other types of lenses available are the computer lenses which are specially designed to protect your eyes from harmful effect of using computers for prolonged hours. These lenses help you in viewing the computer screen and the text on the computer screen for a long time. Another type of lens available are the Double Bifocal lenses which are usually recommended to the pilots, electricians and other professionals who have to work at a close vision overhead.
