The Philippines has now surpassed India in terms of being the top choice destination of most offshore call centers serving the American market. The Philippines, still having the highest level of English proficiency compared to any neighboring country in Asia, is also by far the “easiest-to-understand” accent for most of those people whose first language is English, specifically the Americans. There is now what you call a small but expanding number of British companies outsourcing their activities to the Philippines. Although, many British establishments still opts to choose India instead of the Philippines, despite it, Philippine-based call center companies are now gradually concentrating on the given opportunities coming from the United Kingdom. This is most especially true because the pound is strengthening to about 1.9 from 1.4 against the dollar . Thus, the competition no longer just comes from India. There have been a large number of other developing countries shifting in the outsourcing industry. And most of the countries are located in Central and Eastern Europe which have weaker English language fluency and are oftentimes lacking in quality communication skills. As the real competition originates from Africa, most especially in the southern part of it.
So long as the Philippines maintains its competitive edge in the English proficiency, the country will definitely be a strong contender to reckon. In connection with, since, the peso has been devaluating from about 70 to approximately 100 to the pound, it makes it more competitive. But just like other offshore locations and start-up offshore services, there will be more challenges to cope with.
