How to Use Special Reports to Establish Your Own Voice and Presence On The Internet

by David C

If you have subscribed to anyone of the successful bloggers or marketers today, you probably have received their special reports and there is a bigger chance that you liked it and you were convinced by it. It was an effective report, and it is one of the factors why they are successful in their chosen field or niche.

What exactly is a special report? Well, it's a sales letter in print but not quite. Unlike most sales letter, a special report acts more like a fact sheet that contains valuable information, verifiable, and guaranteed accurate (or something close to that) which comes often as free or with a small cost. It is a marketing copy which tells a fact to your potential clients and which somehow directs them to your product or service.

There are 2 main purposes for making a report:

1. It's a great marketing tool - It helps establish the writer or author as someone credible and expert in that field. Since it contains highly specialized content material, the author is viewed as someone expert in that field. Of course, the information must all be facts since everything is researchable online.

2. It's an additional income - some reports are offered free, others would offer for a small cost. It is advisable to have a mix of both. Since it's a highly specialized important and relevant content, others would be willing to pay for it. And as a marketer, this is an additional source of income.

Selling special reports are not easy as it looks though. Since everything is researchable online, many would be interested as to its content but unwilling to pay for it. After all, they can just simply look it up online.

But, don't worry too much. There are certain areas you have to consider before putting your report on sale. The important thing here is that you find the right amount of ingredients to make your potential clients willing to pay for the material available.

1. Audience - Who are you trying to impress? What type of information is valuable to these certain group of people? The demographics of your audience or reader are very crucial. If you are looking to impress on your fellow bloggers, don't just make a report about the best marketing strategies in town, unless you've discovered something new. Chances are they already know that and are probably applying those strategies already. So, there are lesser chances they'll even want to read your report, all the more pay for it, because it's not something new, fresh, and relevant to them.

2. End Goal - What do you want to achieve with your report? Most effective reports convert to sales because the readers were convinced, compelled, and directed towards purchasing your products or service. An effective report should call its readers to action; if not now, maybe later. Thus, there must be some sense of urgency to it.

3. Layout and Distribution - The best layout is the simplest one. The best distribution is through an e-Book or pdf file. This is because a simple layout makes it easier for the readers to navigate through the material. But don't mistake simplicity from dullness. You can create a simple report layout but still looks professional. Also, the distribution channel should be something everybody can have access to. Most reports come in pdf files, eBook format, and even powerpoint files.

Remember that no matter how great your content is, if it doesn't create a good first impression, people are not going to read it. So, make sure that your headline is attention grabbing. Something that would arouse the curiosity and interest of your potential clients.
