Invisalign - Stylish Treatment, Great Smile!

by Nino Gullotta

The days where you would get laughed at and joked about by friends and family simply because of teeth straightening treatment are over! There are new and interesting ways in which you can have your teeth straightened without having to deal with all those prying eyes. Invisible braces are a great way to go through treatment especially if you are a professional or you are conscious about your looks. Invisalign is a modern, hi-tech method of straightening teeth that are not only effective but also discreet.

About Invisalign

Invisalign is a method of straightening teeth which use removable aligners that are custom-made for your teeth. The aligners are made from clear plastic which is smooth and are therefore comfortable once you wear them over your teeth. A set of aligners is usually worn for two weeks after which you will wear a new set of aligners. Invisalign works by shifting your teeth gently and slowly to the required position.

Appointment

If you feel that Invisalign is an option that you would like to try out, you first need to identify an Invisalign provider. Not all dentists are trained to offer Invisalign, so you need to specifically identify a trained provider who is not only qualified but one who also has experience in the provision of Invisalign.

The orthodontist will examine your teeth and will advise you as to whether Invisalign is appropriate in handling your case. If you are a good patient for Invisalign, the orthodontist will take pictures and x-rays of your teeth. He will also need to take impressions of your teeth. A 3D image of your teeth will be created by Invisalign, which will guide your orthodontist in preparing a treatment plan for you. You will be able to see how your teeth will look like at each stage of treatment up to the result.

Conditions

There are some orthodontic conditions which can successfully be treated using Invisalign. A crossbite which occurs when the upper and lower teeth are not properly aligned can be treated. An underbite which happens when the lower teeth bite over the upper front teeth and an overbite where the upper front teeth bite over the lower teeth can be corrected.

Other conditions like crowded teeth and an open bite can be sorted using Invisalign. Crowded teeth happen when the jaw space is not enough for all the teeth, while an open bite occurs when the upper and lower teeth do not meet when you bite.

Aligners

Your aligners will be created, and you will be required to wear them throughout except when eating and brushing your teeth. Your teeth will begin to shift to the required position as you wear the aligners. You will be required to wear a new set of aligners every two weeks. Your orthodontist will provide you with the necessary set of aligners which will take you up to the time of your next appointment. Your appointments will probably be about every six weeks, and the orthodontist will check whether your treatment is on point.

Maintenance

You can clean your aligners by brushing them gently and rinsing them off in lukewarm water. Ensure that you brush and floss your teeth daily to maintain your oral health during treatment.
