What You Need to Know About Edible Wedding Favors

by Steven Barnhart

If you are considering offering your wedding guests edible wedding favors on your big day, you may be patting yourself on the back for coming up with a creative and often generally affordable idea for your parting gifts. Such gifts are often a fabulous idea indeed, as they can save you a bit of money over other ideas like picture frames and other popular ideas, and they are often well-received by guests, too. After all, who doesn't like to receive the gift of a sweet treat? Plus, if you decide to make your own favors, you will find that you can add a personal touch to your gift, too! Yet there are some things that you will want to keep in mind when offering this as your gift.

The Weather.

If you are getting married during warmer weather such as those popular summer months or even on a warmer spring or fall day, you will want to consider the temperature and how it will affect your edible wedding favors. Things like chocolates, cupcakes, and so forth can easily become ruined if allowed to sit in the heat. If you have an outdoor wedding or even just if you're transporting the items to the reception site, you will want to keep heat in mind. Other factors that can cause issues for your edibles are rain, snow and freezing temperatures, too.

The Time.

Time is certainly a huge consideration in so many aspects of wedding planning. It's great to consider adding personal touches throughout your wedding and reception, but the fact is that many brides and grooms do end up buying various items and forgoing those personal touches they first intended to include because of a lack of time. It can take a lot of time to plan a wedding after all, and if you are planning to make your own edible wedding favors, this often means a huge time commitment on your part just a day or two before your wedding day. The other option is to order your treats to come from a professional bakery so that you don't have to put your own time into making them.

Food Allergies.

Now, it's your wedding day and you can offer whatever edible wedding favors you like. However, you may want to consider food options that have a lower tendency to spur on food allergies. You may want to avoid things that contain various kinds of nuts, and if you are aware of allergies such as those to wheat or egg products in your wedding guests, you may consider avoiding treats that contain those, too. Otherwise, you want to let your guests know what ingredients your treats contain so that those with allergies can stay away from them.

Popular Reception.

The fact is that while there are some things to keep in mind when planning for edible wedding favors, this is generally a fabulous idea that will be well-received by your guests. To ensure everything flows smoothly at your wedding, though, you will want to keep these things in mind and plan for them.
