Modernizing your Homes
If you were to walk into the home of an average 17th century family, you’d see large furniture dominating the floor spaces. There would be a much smaller floor area to move around in because the room would be towered by the furniture in it. Big beds, big chairs, big tables, big cabinets.. That was a typical home back then. They may be beautiful because of their intricate designs, but you can never really say that they are comfortable and well-matched for the area they are occupying. Fortunately for us, ergonomics was introduced. Ergonomics emphasizes keeping safety in mind upon moving the body, maintaining the correct posture, and keeping the contour of the body in its alignment. Ergonomics and the need for aesthetics paved the way to design furniture that are less cumbersome, comfortable, and suited for the floor space that we live in. We also have the benefit of fitting comfort with style, therefore, making our homes as relaxing and beautiful as we can make it.Modern furniture now has levers to increase or decrease the height to more comfortable levels, as with chairs. Materials used for making furniture more durable, like metals and plastics were also tried to provide more stability to a body that it is supporting. This practically means that regardless of your height or weight, there would be a furniture that would especially suit you, with its simple and elegant design and the comfort and durability it provides. Since furniture in homes are not fixed, portable furniture like folding chairs, beds and tables have also been presented. This makes storage easier and less cumbersome for people. Wheels and rollers have also been added to aid with the pushing and pulling of these items, thus decreasing our workload when moving. Such merging of the needs of a modern home makes living in it more relaxing and enjoyable. The floor space is greatly maximized, and furniture now adds to the aesthetics of a home. Maybe, if 17th century people visit our homes today, and see our furniture, they might not want to go back to their time!
