Managing Your Anger
An illistrative story showing how Anger Avoidance works
Anger Management is not effective because people can't stand being managed. However Anger Avoidance as taught in a Manualized Cognitive Restructuring Workbook is effective. The following illustration is an example of what an Anger Avoidance Cognitive Lifeskills Workbook might include.
Jason had a plethora of reasons to flare up in anger just as Cord did. He could have broken bones, punched guts, striked faces, bruised breasts or kicked ribs, but he chose not to.
Shelly, like many women who were sexually assaulted when they were young, could have chosen to be an out-of-the-box, responsive person, but she chose not to. She continually fed her deep-seated anger. She used up most of her life poisoning every person she met. With an MBA and being employed in a supervisory position in a large manufacturing company, she treated her workers with condescension. She believed that they were all ignorant and had to be told exactly what to do. She belittled and marginalized them while trying to act concerned and interested in their welfare.
