New Homes For Sale In Bedfordshire - May 2011 Update

by Keith Osborne

House hunters hoping to benefit from the best of both worlds - tranquil rural surroundings combined with good amenities and accessibility, might like to consider the choice of new homes in Bedfordshire available at the moment. The county has busy market towns and quiet villages, some excellent schools and great connectivity via the M1 and A1(M) and rail routes into King's Cross and St Pancras. It's a great place to find a property, especially for families.

Bloomfield, a development from Croudace Homes, comprises a selection of two-, three- and four-bedroom homes in Shefford, midway between Hitchin and Bedford. The current release has homes with three or four bedrooms, priced between £211,950 and £319,950.

One of the most impressive home types, forming part of an imposing crescent of townhouses, is the 'Chelsea'. Set over three floors, the accommodation consists of kitchen and utility room plus a family/dining room on the ground floor; a sizeable lounge sharing the first floor with the master bedroom, which has fitted wardrobes and en-suite facilities; and two more bedrooms on the second floor along with a family bathroom and a study, that could also function as a fourth bedroom. With schools for all age groups within walking distance, the 'Chelsea' is priced at £284,950.

Just a few miles away, in Stotfold, Bovis Homes has a range of homes with two to four bedrooms at its Fairfield Park scheme. The exterior styling is inspired by the Victorian heritage of the site, though of course the interiors have a thoroughly modern specification. Prices start at £189,995, rising to £369,995, and there is a great selection of home types to suit most buyers.

The village is ideal for commuting to nearby Hitchin and Letchworth, and both towns have convenient commuter links into London. The Fairfield Park site has a new community centre and school, with plans for a local store and communal tennis courts. The local cricket ground has been upgraded and there are cycleways and footpaths giving easy access to the gorgeous countryside.

Regional housebuilder Leach Homes has constructed some 11,000 homes in its 75-year-plus history, and the distinctive properties at Riverside Walk in Great Barford exemplify the quality and standards set in previous developments. The location is delightful, a peaceful village close to the River Great Ouse that was mentioned in the Domesday Book and still retained buildings dating back as far as the 15th century. Stations at nearby Bedford and Sandy provide services into London with journey times of around 45 to 50 minutes.

There are a number of four-bedroom home styles to choose from. Top of the range is the 'Hawker' house type, the current show home now made available for sale priced £514,500. On the ground floor, the kitchen/breakfast room provides a hub from which you can relax in the family room or straight out into the garden. The large lounge also leads out to the garden, and the separate study and dining room provide real flexibility for home working and entertaining. The master bedroom upstairs has a dressing area in addition to its en-suite shower room. Bedroom two has its own en-suite facilities and the other two bedrooms share a family bathroom.

Bloor Homes has a number of family homes available at its Lakeview development in Elstow, on the southern outskirts of Bedford. It is part of the first village to be constructed for the new Wixams community planned for this strategically important area. The new homes are just one element of the creation of a new settlement that will also include shops, commercial areas, schools, healthcare, transport links and leisure facilities. Prices start at £284,950 for the selection of four- and five-bedroom homes now on sale.
