If you ever considered that t'ai chi and weight loss exercises do not work together simply because t'ai chi only entails slow, moderate "dance like" movements, then reconsider that thought. A survey by analysts at Victor Segalen University in Bordeaux, France, found out that overweight females lose significant quantities of unwanted fat if they practice t'ai chi on a regular basis.

The researchers, led by Dr. Arnaud Dechamps, considered twenty one overweight women who didn't usually participate in any form of physical exercise. They randomised 50% of the ladies to a t'ai chi plan, and the remaining half to a typical workout programme. Both groups exercised 2 hours a week.

The results, printed inside the Clinical Journal of Sport Medicine, reveal that, after just 10 weeks, not only were the ladies inside the t'ai chi group less fat, their blood pressure level had decreased, and their mood had improved substantially. The researchers furthermore found that the beneficial effects of t'ai chi were all but short term. They lasted a substantial 6 months following the end of the last t'ai chi session.

The actual "weight loss" results of t'ai chi are not restricted to obese men and women. They expand to anyone who desires to slim down the healthy and balanced way, using weight loss exercises. The publication Work reports, as an example, that, in one Canadian investigation, fifty two individuals who took part in a 12-week t'ai chi programme productively lost weight, as shown by significant reductions in their waistline circumference.

The group contained staff working long hours at the computer, one of the different types at heavy risk of being overweight. The employees were asked by the analysts - of York University in Toronto - to employ t'ai chi twice a week. Each and every session lasted fifty minutes. Like the study in France, the beneficial effects of t'ai chi went far above weight-loss. The most significant additional advantage was an improvement in heart performance.

Therefore, just how can t'ai chi help men and women lose weight? For starters, in spite of common belief, we do burn off calories whenever we follow t'ai chi. T'ai chi may not be a strenuous form of physical exercise, but our body uses up to three hundred calories per hour when we do it.

Another reason why t'ai chi facilitates weight-loss has to do with its "stress relief" qualities. Studies have shown that many of us tend to consume much more when we are stressed. We often consume the incorrect food. Research by Leeds University analysts discovered, for instance, that we may select high calorie drinks and food when we're under emotional stress. By lowering our stress levels, t'ai chi decreases also our tendency to eat much more than we require and also unhealthily.

There is tremendous medical evidence that burning off excess fat is very important for a lot of reasons. It makes us feel good about ourselves, boosts our overall feeling of self-confidence, and reduces our risk of establishing serious health problems associated with overweight and obesity, for instance diabetes and heart problems.
