Even if you keep your home spotless, they can find their way in. This article has many common pest control tips.

Make sure you rinse out any containers you are recycling. One thing you must rinse are those cans that have high levels of sugar. Be certain to rinse soda bottles before placing them in your recycling bin.

If you're trying to battle a mouse or rat problem on your own, keep this in mind: mice and rats will eat almost anything. Different types of meat, cheese and candy are all things they love to eat. You can get rid of food that has gone bad by using it to bait the traps as well.

Make sure that flowers and shrubs are planted several feet from your house, as this decreases the number of bugs that enter your home. If you can, put some tiles around your foundation. You could have your windows left open if you weren't worried about bugs coming inside.

If you are having a real problem, think about replacing all of your small appliances. See if a loved one can give you extra appliances, and throw away the ones you have. All of the nooks and crannies in these appliances provide comfortable hiding places for pests.

It can be hard to eradicate bed bugs; they hide in small places. Doing this means no bugs can come out after you have exterminated.

Flour moths, like other bugs, just love to eat your food. To keep them off your property, there has to be no food source available to them. Seal all food in airtight containers, so they can't possibly feast on it.

Trees should not be planted close to your house if you have rat and mice problems.
