STOP Saving For Retirement!!!

Three days ago I took both my grandkids to our local McDonalds and noticed an elderly lady sweeping up the front entrance. She pleasantly said hello to both kids and as we passed to take our seats. I couldn't help wonder why she was working so hard, at this type of low paying job, this late in life.

As she smiled once again at my oldest grandchild I was asked by Shelly (the youngest one ) how come I didn't work at a great place like this. I smiled and explained to my little buddy that "Poppy didn't need to work at his age and that I was also lucky"

But when I thought about it later that day I realized that luck didn't really have anything to do with it and that the "tiny difference" between retiring wealthy as opposed to working as a Wal-Mart greeter in my late 60's was a little "free education" that I acquired when I first started working as a janitor.

Yep, I worked as a janitor all my life and managed to retire quite comfortably -- not rich by no means but with enough cash in my bank account to take the grandkids shopping anytime they deserve to go :-)

Like many of you I was totally frustrated with the amount of money I was earning especially after the tax-man took what seemed to be half my paycheck. I took it upon myself to learn what I could about preparing for early retirement and read every book I could find.

Today you guys have some amazing booksfor reference, my favourite being The Wealthy Barber -- I give this book to every one of my nieces and nephews that graduate university. If you have kids then you might want to pick up a copy for them.

Back to my story...

The information I collected and eventually implemented over time has allowed me to increase my annual RRSP contributions to the point that shopping with the grandkids is a whole lot of fun.

To accomplish this I managed to acquire enough information that eventually allowed me to recover a large amount of my annual income tax and apply it to my retirement portfolio. The more I studied - the larger my annual retirement contribution.

I often wonder if Canadian and the US residents fully understand how lucky they really are these day. The information you require to become wealthy is basically at your fingertips so don't be caught working past your desired retirement age. If you don't have the money already stashed away for retirement then learn the skills necessary to recover the cash form your weekly tax remittance and reinvest it strategically.

REMEMBER this money is actually yours - you only need the education to legally ask for it back -- as crazy as this sounds your Canadian and US tax departments are highly interested in honouring your request if asked properly :-)

REMEMBER: It's to our governments "financial advantage" to help its residents become wealthy homeowners rather than a "Financial Burden" on society at Retirement Age.

Learn what you can -- Apply what you Learn..
