Four Interesting and Unique Floppy Disk Crafts

by Patricia Strasser

If you've many unused diskettes piled up inside your floppy disk holders in the home and the only idea you have to deal with them is to throw them into the garbage, why not reuse them instead and utilize these items to create great floppy disk crafts? The following are some enjoyable and creative projects you can do using your floppies:

Pen holder

Floppy disks can be created into special pen holders which you can place on your study table or on your workdesk at your workplace. All you need is five floppy disks plus some adhesive. To begin, place 1 floppy disc over the worktop. This is the base for your pen case. Gather the 4 other diskettes around the four sides of the base in a standing posture. Make sure that it appears like a cube with an open top. Glue the edges hooking up each of the discs and allow the glue dried up before use. You could use floppies in several colours so that both sides of the pen holder is unique from the other.

Supply caddy or perhaps workdesk organizer

If you prefer a bigger type of the floppy disk pen holder that could keep not only your pencils and pens but your sticky notes, bills, or other office supplies as well, you could make a supply caddy or workdesk organizer. You will need a minimum of 20 floppy disks and glue. To start with, create the foundation of your organizer by taking six floppies, setting them flat on a work surface in two rows with 3 disks in every row. Make sure that your design is straight by using a square ruler. Glue all the edges to attach them together. Put and glue ten other disks around the base in an straight position. These will be the sides of your caddy. Now, determine how many partitions you need your organizer to have. Use the remaining floppy disks as partitions in your organizer by gluing rows of standing discs in the middle of the organizer. You may also make a pen holder within the caddy by designing a square partition in one side.

Floppy disk laptop case

Floppy disks can also be created into a very distinctive laptop case. You will need forty two floppy disks and some zip ties or metal rings. Lay a row of 4 floppy disks and attach them using the zip ties or metal rings. You do not have to punch holes into the floppy disks since they already have tiny openings in the edges. The corners of the case should have a width of 4 disks and a height of three disks. Attach all the floppy disks with the metal rings or zip ties. Do not forget to add a strap at the side of the bag.

Colorful photograph frame

To make a photograph frame out of floppy disks, you will need 16 floppy disks, string or yarn, and a ribbon. Develop a square frame using the floppy disks and connect them together with yarn and string. Get a photograph and attach it behind the frame. Hang the frame on the wall utilizing a ribbon attached behind the frame.

Recycling floppy disks helps Mother Earth, and by creating unique and interesting works of art with them you also have great gifts for your computer-enthusiast friends.
