How To Make A Decision Tree Diagram

As the name suggests, a decision tree diagram is used to decide what all actions should be undertaken in order to take a particular decision. Using a decision tree diagram, you can explore the implications of different options and choices and explore their possible consequences. This way you will be able to analyze the risk involved in the choice of course of action that you are faced with. Needless to say, this situation will make you realize which of them not to follow.

To make decisions using a decision tree diagram, you need to first of all begin with mentioning the decision. In the left corner of a piece of paper, draw a square. Now to chart out the possible solutions, you need to draw lines toward the right side of the paper. Each of these lines should culminate in a decision taken. Each single line should be separate from the other line as far as possible so that you can have enough space to write down those things that might be important for consideration.

Each and every line of such a tree diagram leads to a solution and you should be able to visualize results. If you are not sure whether the decision you are taking is really going to give fruitful result or not, you should draw a circle around that particular decision. If you have reached a certain decision, you should box that decision in a square (as a square represents a solid decision). In case the result is another decision, put it inside a square. Always write your decision above square or the circle.

If you want to include another decision in the tree, draw another line and again draw a circle if the decision is certain or a square if you are not sure of the result. Try to make maximum possible lines, square or circles. After you are done, try to analyze each and every aspect of all decisions taken and try to find out if the decisions you have made could have had any other decision that you did not consider. If any such decision strikes your mind, include it in the tree. Try to keep tree neat and tidy. It should not be very complicated or congested. Now you are almost familiar with each and every aspect of the decision that you are about to take.

After this, try to evaluate your decision tree and assign values. All the outcomes should be assigned some values and then see how much you score. Based on that you can judge how worthy your decision is. By analyzing the tree you can easily find out which is the best decision.
