What Makes A T-Shirt 'Offensive'?

Have you ever been in a situation where you have been wearing something which you consider to be perfectly appropriate for whatever situation you are in, only for someone to stop you and say that they think it is inappropriate in some way? This can be in the form of a polite whisper in your ear or a sudden punch in the face. <br/><br/> Either way there is no denying that certain t-shirts cause people offense. To help you avoid a possible punch in the face, here are few examples of t-shirts that can cause offense to some people. <br/><br/> Revealing <br/><br/> One big thing that causes offense is when people walk around in public wearing a t-shirt or other item of clothing which some people consider to be revealing too much of their flesh. This is probably most common in places where covering your skin or being reserved is part of the local culture or religion. Revealing clothes may also cause offense if they are worn in certain social situations like at a meeting or when going to church. <br/><br/> Slogan <br/><br/> Another major thing that can make a t-shirt offensive is when there is a particular type of slogan on it. One of the most well-known examples of this happening was when an Australian man faced 6 months in jail for wearing a t-shirt by a band called 'Cradle of Filth' that depicted a nun masturbating and bore a slogan that compared Jesus to a vagina. Part of this band's appeal is in their shocking nature which they certainly managed with this slogan. <br/><br/> Sports <br/><br/> If you walked into certain pubs in certain cities with a certain football shirt on there would be trouble. But wearing the same shirt in a different pub in a different city would likely produce a cheer. Sporting passions run hot so just wearing a rival team's shirt can be deemed to be majorly offensive. Offensive t shirts are really in the eye of the beholder, meaning that even mens funny t shirts whatever the t-shirt says can be found offensive by someone. It's all just a matter of tact when it comes to funny t shirts. <br/><br/> Picture <br/><br/> As with the 'vestal masturbation' example above, pictures can cause just as much offense as messages. So how do you know what will be offensive and what won't? Unless you are looking for trouble, and some people do, you just need to think carefully about the message your t-shirt is giving and consider whether where you are going or what you are doing may make your t-shirt appear offensive to some. <br/><br/> <br/><br/>
