If we explore human history, we will observe that the one most important factor that shaped our destiny and future was using our hands for various tasks. Manual labour literally means physical work done by a person with his hands. Humans have been using their intelligence, strength and individual ability to survive. Over the period of time, this human effort has been supported by the use of instruments and machines, thereby reducing the effort to do a certain type of work.

In the olden days, slavery was used as a means to control human labour. People from weaker sections (social and financial) were usually controlled by the higher & influential class (Kings, dictators or landlords) to do all their work. People would be kidnapped and forced to work for long period without pay thus earning huge profits for their masters. Such forced labour has been used to build many roads, bridges and lay railway lines. In some countries, labour was divided based on caste or race. It usually meant that the most demeaning and difficult tasks were usually assigned to the people who formed the lowest rung of this human chain.

However, we have come a long way from that and all forms of manual labour is respected and all such people are dignified part of the society. Unlike olden times, a human labourer has rights and privileges. He has the support of the law on his side. Today's labourers enjoy equal status in society no matter what work they do or the race and caste they belong to. They are equals in society and enjoy every benefit on offer.
