4 Points to Remember During Document Attestation
Do you need to visit a gulf country on some purpose? Do you need to get your documents attested?
Document attestation is a pre requisite for hassle-free visa processing. So whenever individuals have to go to countries like UAE, Qatar, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia on business, employment, education or leisure purpose, they are supposed to get a specific set of documents attested from authorized signatories.
The process of document attestation is a lengthy process as a document is required to go through a slew of authorities. Given the large amount of time consumed in the procedure, individuals have the option of getting the task accomplished through a professional agency. These agencies get the documents attested without the need of individual's presence.
Like any other process, the attestation process also needs to be done carefully. Anyone can face some glitches while going through the process. However, there are solutions for such problems. It is also important to be aware of few facts associated with the process.
a. The case of damaged or lost documents Exceptions in document requirements for attestation are not really entertained, even if a given document is lost or damaged due to some reason. In such a case, an FIR needs to be lodged in the police station which is in charge of the territory where the document was lost. FIR is the short for First Information Report.
A copy of FIR complete with the IPC no. (Indian Penal Code number) and duly signed by Duty Officer, should be submitted with relevant University/Board/issuing authority along with a Lost Certificate Application. However, receiving a duplicate copy can take some time and repeated follow-ups might even be necessary.
b. The case of laminated documents Attestation cannot be done on laminated area because the stamp tends to wear off or get damaged. In order to attest laminated documents, the lamination is removed in a way that does not damage the certificate.
In general, one should refrain from getting the certificates laminated as attestation requirements from different countries would require removal of lamination which can damage the certificates.
c. Duration of attestation process One should be aware of the fact the whole process of attestation, when conducted with the help of a professional agency and when conducted without any glitches, can take at least 15-20 working days. Hence, one should plan accordingly.
d. Handling of documents Since the attestation is done on original documents, these documents run the chance of getting damaged. Thus, before handing over the task to a professional agency, one should make sure that the right agency has been selected which has a track record of responsible document handling.
A little bit of caution can work wonders for you and can result in a smooth attestation of your certificates.
