Hawaii Wedding Planner: How to plan an outdoor wedding
Outdoor marriages in Hawaii are lovely - except when the weather is not. Here are some things to consider when planning your outdoor marriage (on or near the beach).
1)Have a backup plan in the event of rain. Scattered showers are not uncommon in the islands and looked upon as a blessing. But longer rainstorms make for a messy ceremony and/or reception - so, if you are able, have a backup scenario. Some alternatives are renting a canopy or scheduling an indoor area. Another option is having your wedding at a beachfront location with indoor capabilities such as a resort or estate.
2) If you're planning your wedding literally on the beach, try not to put chairs directly on the sand if you can help it. The sand is shaky and uneven, and some of your guests may not be dressed appropriately for being on the sand. Look for a grassy knoll to place chairs for guests. If you do want your ceremony on the sand, discuss renting some type of flooring for the chairs to be placed on.
3)Think about the glare of the sun for your guests during your marriage ceremony. Try to arrange people so that there is minimal time with direct sun exposure. The majesty of the ocean waves gets lost when people cant even open their eyes.
4)If it's a daytime ceremony, discuss having bottled water available for guests as they arrive. Mauis sun can be very hot; and folks can dehydrate swiftly in the afternoon sun.
5) Buy hand-held fans to distribute to guests as wedding favors or as keepsakes to help keep the sun out of their eyes and a cool breeze handy.
6) Check with the local weather service regarding tide and sunset times. And remember these things when discussing your ceremony time.
7) Be certain to find out all the rules and restrictions for the beach or park you are using. Some regulations to prepare for are restrictions on number of guests; use or availability of electricity; use of amplified music; how long you can be there. Usually public beaches and parks will only allow smaller gatherings.
