The Good And Bad Of Depression Medicines

NOT available to public

Do you feel depressed? If so, don't feel like you're alone. It happens to millions of Americans and others everywhere. The thing that really sucks about depressive symptoms is that, with all of our advanced medicines, we still haven't come up with a proven remedy for depression. There's a reason behind this too. Read more.

The biggest obstacle that doctor's face with finding a cure are that there are a lot of different types of depression to deal with and of these, some have their own chronic symptoms that have to be dealt with. This is why some doctor's will give you more than one medication to try to help you. You might be suffering from a few symptoms and they would have to place you on a different drug for each individual symptom. Example, you could be suffering from depression, anxiety and insomnia (Insomnia is inability to sleep). In this case, the doctor could give you an antidepressant medication like Zoloft, something to help your anxiety symptoms like Busbar and possibly Trazadone in order to help you sleep. This is all hypothetical, but comes from personal experience.

The only problem with antidepressant drugs is that, in many instances, they only relieve the depressive symptoms about 70% of the time and of that, only partially. There are some people that must "try" many different drugs before they either find one that helps or choose to try something completely different, such as professional therapy. The problem with these medications is that it takes 3-4 weeks for them to get fully absorbed into your system. Only after this time has passed will you know if they are helping, not helping or making you worse. After this time frame has passed you may want to try another drug and the process begins all over again. Whatever you do, never stop taking your medicines without contacting your doctor first. This can be very dangerous in some cases.

Another problem with these medicines are the side effects. These are always just wonderful to deal with. Nervousness, diarrhea, constipation, insomnia, fatigue and more. Isn't it funny that some of the side effects are things that you might have gone to the doctor to be seen for in the first place?

There are several other types of depression that are serious such as Clinical depression or Manic (Bipolar) depression. People that suffer from these depressive disorders suffer from an entire list of symptoms such as moodiness, inability to have or maintain a normal relationship with friends or family, suicidal thoughts and more.

Manic depressives have also will sometimes engage in self mutilation, cutting themselves all over their arms and legs. Not enough to be life threatening normally, but enough to leave terrible scarring and cause themselves extreme pain.

Depression is bad disorder that has become more common in this day and age. If you or some one you know suffer from symptoms of depression for more than a couple of weeks, you need to seek medical help and find out what your options are. Best of luck.
