Bathroom Pedestal Sinks for Small Bathrooms

by Mark Etinger

When you move into your first apartment, or just most apartments in general, space is usually tight, unless you're fortunate enough to own a penthouse. It's bad enough trying to fit all your furniture and decor into the living room and bedroom, but the bathroom will always have the least amount of space. If you're working with some really cramped space, there are plenty of ways to utilize what little space you do have.

First you need to be smart with any furniture and fixtures. A great way to conserve space is to install bathroom pedestal sinks. You typically find bathroom pedestal sinks in half-baths, but they will give you more room in your small bathroom. Another option that is ultra modern are floating vanities. Obviously you can't expect to have whirlpools in there, but any type of soaking tub might not be a good idea. Instead, opt for a shower stall, unless your heart is set on one and there is ample room for it. Search for smaller, economical toilet bowls too. There is no need for one that is excessively big.

You may think that you're skimping out on storage space when you purchase bathroom pedestal sinks, but there are plenty of storage options available. For instance, look at all that great wall space you have. Before you start hanging pictures, hang floating shelves. Use floating shelves to store extra towels, soap, toothpaste, and anything else you need readily available. You'll also have floor space to add other storage solutions, like wicker baskets.

If you do have a sink with a countertop, don't fully extend the counter all the way across the wall. Instead, just create a small ledge of counter space. You'll still have room to add items on the counter, but it won't be jutting out as far into the bathroom space. Another great option, which is actually good for any room in the home, is built-in shelves and cabinets. They offer a ton of storage space and will look beautiful in your bathroom.

This next tip won't actually give you more room, but it will make your bathroom seem much larger. Always paint with a light palette. Light colored walls and furniture will give the illusion of a large room. Simplicity is also key. The less items you have in your bathroom, the roomier, and neater, it will be. Clutter will just decrease your space tenfold.

With the right furniture, bathroom pedestal sinks, and simple décor, you can enjoy a more spacious and luxurious bathroom.
