1. The Kelp Forests - The Kelp beds of both La Jolla and Point Loma can be one of the most amazing boat diving experiences you could ever imagine. It will be like traveling through a forest, only underwater. You may even get a visit from a seal or two on your dive adventure. Once you are down about 20' you will see the rock bed that is home to the Lobsters and Sea Hares. This is a wonderful spot for underwater photography. You can make it a day trip and the area has the best visibility rating in the area, boasting clear waters for up to depths of 150'. The farther down you go the better the chances of your encountering Horn Sharks, Sea Lions and that beautiful purple coral that is only found in these waters.

2. Wreck Alley - This is a bevy of reefs that were made one mile off the coast. Although manmade, the reefs provide much excitement. You can dive and explore the shipwrecks as well as interact with the abundant wild life that populates the reef. You will get to see the wreckage of the NOSC tower, a weather station that went down in 1988, a retired cutter named the El Rey and the Coast Guard's Ruby E that was sunk in 1989 and the latest addition a 366' "Yukon". There are others that will be of interest so do not forget the camera.

3. La Jolla Shores - This is a popular destination mainly because of the easiness of the water entry. There are shallows just perfect for the beginner, and deeper waters for the more experienced divers. The La Jolla submarine canyon is a spot that a lot of experienced divers like to spend time exploring.

4. The Marine Room - This area gets its name from the restaurant that it is near and has the shore-to-water entry that a lot of divers prefer. A perfect spot for deep dives that don't take you far out to sea. You can swim to the La Jolla submarine canyon or the cove from this entry point. The area offers small waves, exceptional visibility and fewer surges. You should be warned that parking is tight and goes quickly. You should plan your dive for the earliest possible morning hours. The Restaurant is world class and is right on the shore. The original structure dates back to 1916.

5. Mission Bay - Located in Mexico's waters the Islands, as they are most commonly referred to, offer a great dive. You can go as part of a dive tour, or charter a boat, for a private dive. The locale is on the edge of the continental shelf and you are bound to see an abundance of aquatic life on any dive. Each Island has its own allure and you will just have to find your favorite.
