Find Fun And Easy Ways To Train Your Dog

by Maureen Brownell

Puppy training can sometimes be difficult. Dogs are naturally playful and will often want to play when dog owners attempt to train them. It also takes them a while to register commands from their owner. The tips in this article will help you to successfully train your dog.

Using a crate when you're not at home can be very effective, especially for a young puppy. The crate keeps your puppy safe and secure, and also protects your home from chewing and bathroom accidents. Your puppy can learn to feel comfortable and protected in his crate home while you are away.

With aggressive dogs it is best to begin slowly. Aggressive dogs see themselves as the dominant role in the pack and trying to take that role from them too quickly can result in a negative response from the animal. To avoid bites or difficulty, take small steps in establishing yourself as the pack leader.

When interacting with other dogs, expect a calm, sedate attitude from your pet before letting them go loose. By establishing a calm demeanor in your pet, you will cause a ripple effect through the other animals as well as teaching your dog that you control the environment. This will make it easier to withdraw your dog when it is time to go as well.

Throwing out your dog's food bowl can assist you with your training program. Studies have shown that animals respond well to working for their meals. Incorporate food as a reward in your training and also, use it for entertainment purposes. You can do this by putting the food in a toy or a puzzle.

Show your dog that you love them and are proud of them. It's easy in dog training to focus on the negative and try to show your dog that what they are doing is wrong. Make sure that you also work to accentuate the positive and praise them when they are doing well.

Understand that during training, what your dog eats will go out of their system. In an effort to create regularity in your puppy, feed specific meals at specific times daily. This ensures your dog won't have accidents as you'll know when to expect a trip outside.

Always end a training session with your dog on a positive note, even if you have to manipulate the scenario to make your dog successful. Ending a training session immediately after a disciplinary action will mean that your dog will remember the session as being about punishment, not about training.

Not all dogs are comfortable around other dogs or people. The best way to train your dog to be more comfortable around other animals or people is to expose them to as many people and other dogs as often as possible, preferably earlier in their life. This will make them accustomed to being around others.

Hopefully, after reading this article, you're feeling like you can start forming some good strategies towards training your dog. Remember that the information in this article isn't all there is to know about training your dog, so be sure to always be on the lookout for new information to apply towards your training regime.
