When Photo Business Cards Is Needed

by Kate Manheaven

With modern technology, it’s practically easy to create unique and high quality business cards today. Among the improvements you can do is adding your photo in your card. This is a great way to add a personal touch to your cards without spending a lot. Keep in mind that customers these days want to feel like they are doing business with a person they can get familiar with rather than deal business with a faceless company.

Before you include a photo though in your business card templates, there are some things you need to consider:

• You have to make sure that your photo is current and of high quality. Make an effort in wearing a nice suit for your photo. Don’t just use a picture of you at the back of a farm taken in 1990. That won’t reflect well on you.

• Make sure that there is enough space around your photo. Don’t use a picture with your ears, arm and head already on the edges of the picture. Give us some room to work with the photo for your business cards. Give enough room for adjustment in case there are things that need to be changed or altered.

• If your picture will be use to cover the whole background of your cards, there should be a lot of room around the image to add text or resize the photo. For example, if you want a picture of a landscape as your background, you would want the landscape to have the image of the sky above. Keep in mind that in resizing your card, bleed is used. This refers to the process where the background is printed beyond the actual size of the card. This is often cut after printing. It is important that your background image has enough room at the edges.

• Be sure that the photo you use is sharp and clear. A blurry photo won’t do any justice to your business cards.

• It’s crucial that you use vivid and rich colors. Make sure that the photo has good lighting. Although there may be enhancements that would be needed in incorporating your photo in your card, a good image will be a good start in the design process.

• A professional photographer is not really needed to take your photo. You can have a friend take your photo, but make sure that you take several shots in order to have choices. Remember that your picture will say a lot about you, so make sure that it looks good for your customers to keep.

• It’s important that your photos are of very high resolution in order to create sharp and clear images. When hiring a professional business card printing company to do your photo card, make sure that you sent them a good photo. Don't just send them a photo of you that you have taken from your web site. This won’t look good for your cards.

• If you want to include not only your picture but a picture of your products as well, make sure that you don’t use too many photos. This will only crowd the small space in your card and make it very confusing for your prospects to pinpoint your message. As much as possible just use simple and a few photos in your card.
