The Necessity of Proper Medical Items: Unisex Scrubs, Uniform Lab Coats and More

by John Cory

In a day and age where everything is mass produced, sometimes there can be an abundance of cheap, poor-quality products – unfortunately this is also true in the medical sector, where many people settle for poor-quality supplies like unisex scrubs, uniform lab coats, and scrub tops and pants. The importance of proper health-care supplies should be evident to all – when caring for sick and injured individuals, it's incredibly necessary to use only the best products; after all, if you or a loved one were in deep trouble, wouldn't you want the hospital or clinic to use only the best-quality products and tools?

To begin with, all supplies must be clean, sterile and brand new – second-hand items just won't come it when it comes to the health and safety protocols that your hospital employs. Imagine if you went to a hospital that used dirty unisex scrubs or Littmann cardiology stethoscopes that just didn't function like they should? It should be evident to all that only new items should be used.

But cleanliness isn't the only thing that your hospital or clinic should be preoccupied with; you must also think about the quality and effectiveness of the product. As an example, if your hospital used poor quality chef uniforms, nursing belt organizer and uniform scrubs, is that a hospital that you'd really like to be involved in? Moreover, think about the patients; although your staff are essential, imagine the effect that poor-quality supplies would have on your patients – the result would be disastrous.

Another thing to think about when picking hospital products is the comfort level of the item; you don't want your staff to be forced to wear scrub tops and pants that are ill-fitting and itchy. As you decide on items like uniform lab coats and unisex scrubs, it's important to think about the comfort above the cost – the small amount of money you'll save isn't worth the discomfort your staff will go through.

Although buying poor-quality scrubs isn't exactly a life or death situation, it's definitely an important factor to consider… especially if you wish to uphold a high-quality clinic. If you are the one in charge of buying tools and equipment, make sure you only buy the highest-quality items. Products such as chef uniforms, and nursing belt organizers may not seem critical to you, but you will certainly notice the difference if you run off and buy low-quality items. Be cautious of what you buy – especially if it seems like it's too good to be true!
