Arzberg Form 2006, Akita, combines oriental and western styles, inspired by Japanese Kimono motifs. The designer, Peter Schmidt, whose name is synonymous with lifestyle design, has a long resume of brand development for leading international companies, including Jil Sander, Hugo Boss, Davidoff and Strenesse.

German porcelain factory, Arzberg, manufactured this pair of cups and saucers in around 1985 as part of its commercial range of contemporary teaware. The post-modern, transfer-printed patterns contrast the traditional porcelain forms. Arzberg has made functional, well-designed pieces since 1931. Its wares are characterised by minimal decoration, such as the linear patterns on these pieces .

The Arzberg porcelain factory opened in Bavaria, Germany, in 1887 though achieved enormous success in the late 1920s when it formed a partnership with the organiser of the 1928 Berlin Exhibition of Good Design. In 1931, Arzberg released a white porcelain tea set, called the '1382', that Gretsch designed.
