Merrimack Valley Habitat ReStore Opens for Business in time for Earth Day!
The first Habitat for Humanity ReStore on Boston's north shore opened on March 31st with a grand opening that included presentations by Lawrence, MA Mayor William Lantigua and Community Development Director Jim Barnes. The store supports Earth Day's mission to Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. The grand opening event attracted over 150 people from all over the greater Merrimack Valley as they shopped, took part in a board cutting ceremony and toured the new retail store. As members of the Board of Directors for Merrimack Valley Habitat for Humanity, Steve and Susan Howell were proud to participate in the board cutting and to sponsor the event breakfast.
Howell Custom Building Group is proud to support sustainability and affordable housing by donating reusable materials that we are removing from client's homes to the ReStore. The ReStore is a retail outlet, open to the public, that sells home improvement merchandise at 50%-75% off retail prices. Proceeds from the store support the mission of Merrimack Valley Habitat for Humanity to build homes for local families in need. It's a great way to wisely dispose of gently used home improvement items and home furnishings while promoting re-use of items that may otherwise end up in landfills. The ReStore hopes to serve all surrounding communities from Boston to the North Shore and throughout the Merrimack Valley including property owners, do-it yourselfers, builders, local businesses, and treasure-hunters.
Some items we recently donated include plywood that we pulled off of a barn roof, which the ReStore used to create shelving for the new store. Other materials we've donated, including used windows and cabinetry, are being sold to ReStore shoppers. The article quotes Susan, who points out that donating to the ReStore is less costly than paying to dispose of left-over items from a home remodel or construction project.
"It's a huge resource for us to have this here, and we hope to support it and be constant contributor's to the inventory in the store", says Susan.
