My Favorite Vegas Helicopter Tours to the Grand Canyon

by Lea Fallon

Let's take a Las Vegas helicopter excursion to the Grand Canyon! Do an air or landing tour. Unclear which is right for you? Read this article.

There are two kinds of Vegas flight tours to choose from: air-only and landing. Air-only is the cheapest of the two, while landing gives you a chance to explore the Grand Canyon.

Landing and air tours use the same path of flight and go over Hoover Dam, Lake Mead, the Skywalk, the Mojave Desert and the Canyon.

Landing Tours

Once over the Canyon, the air-only tours will turn back and head back to Vegas while the "landers" will go to either the bottom or the top of the Park.

The most popular choice are the Las Vegas helicopters that land at the bottom offering a champagne picnic along the shores of the Colorado River. Some packages even offer a boat ride.

The other popular landing trip is the one that goes to the top. With this, you can add in VIP tickets for the Skywalk with your Las Vegas helicopters package, which allows you to walk 70 feet beyond the edge of the canyon.

Sold Out?

Due to their popularity, especially in the summer, these helicopter tours will often sell out. If you are planning on taking a helicopter ride to the Canyon, make sure you book it early enough in advance.

If a group is four people or larger, it behooves you to purchase your tickets early because helicopters can only hold up to six passengers. An airplane tour is an option if you don't have access to the seats you need.

When leaving Las Vegas; you can exit from The Strip or one of the neighboring airports. While the outlying options are cheaper, you also need a 40 minute shuttle ride.

The Strip in Las Vegas

If you leave from The Strip, you are only 10 minutes from the heliport which is convenient. Further, most Strip departures include a stretch limousine that picks you up and drops you off at your hotel (very nice if you're celebrating a special event).

When you are taking these tours, make sure to dress comfortably and keep in mind that the summer heat can exceed 100 degrees. You will want to bring a long-sleeved shirt that is lightweight, sunglasses, a hat, a pair of shorts and plenty of water.

A question that comes up often is about front seats. You need to know there is no guarantee for a front seat. Front seats are filled based on the weight of all the passengers flying. There are some tour companies who may sell these seats, but only upon check-in, but there is still no guarantee.

To Sum Things Up

Las Vegas helicopters are the perfect way to experience the Grand Canyon and I hope you have a chance to experience this. You can select a landing or air tour, with my personal preference being the landing tour at the base of the Canyon to have a champagne picnic. I also recommend that you depart from the Las Vegas Strip. Although this might cost a little more, they are also going to offer convenience and be the perfect way to celebrate a special moment in time with your loved ones.
