Benefits Of Running

There are many benefits that you can enjoy by becoming a runner. Running is one of the easiest forms of exercise in terms of getting started. You can get stated running without a major outlay of money. You don't need to buy fancy equipment or spend money to join a gym. The majority of runners got started in the beginning to lose weight. Running also has great overall health benefits in addition to keeping your weight down. And, there is also the social aspect of running.

Ask runners why they got started running and the majority will answer to lose weight. Years ago, that was my reason for getting started. Runners will burn approximately 100 pounds for each mile they run. Your muscle mass will also increase as you run. This means that your metabolism will increase - which in turn means that you are even burning calories when you aren't doing anything.

Studies have shown that running can help save you from the common cold to heart disease to cancer. It is a great form of exercise for your cardiovascular health. Running will strength your heart and lungs and also will help your blood flow better and easier throughout your body. This is what helps to keep your heart healthy and strong.

With running begin a weight bearing exercise, runners also have less chances of ever getting osteoporosis. Another health benefit is your mental health. Running is a great stress reliever. Doctors have prescribed running for their patients that are suffering from depression with positive results. Studies have also found that runners just seemed to have more energy than non-runners and have an overall more positive outlook on life.

There are also social benefits from running. You can meet some great friends that you have for years through running. Running clubs are a great way to socialize with other runners. Attending races is another way to meet other runners. Many runners like training with someone else. This helps keep you motivated, plus pushes you to work harder.

Running is a great form of exercise that has many benefits. The weight loss is the reason that I got started over 30 years ago - but since then, I've seen the overall health that I enjoy. And, I know that the reason for this is from my running. If you run 1 mile a day or 10, running help you stay healthier mentally and physically and possibly live longer.
