Rarely, in breast fed babies, colic is a sign of sensitivity to a food in mom's diet. Colicky behavior may also be a sign of a medical problem, such as a hernia or other types of sickness.

Consult your doctor first to rule out an illness of some sort. If breastfeeding, eliminate things from your diet suck as milk products, onions, cabbage, and caffeine. If you are bottle feeding, switch to a formula that has no cow's milk. If sensitivity to food is causing the problem, you should see the colic decrease within a few days.Walk your baby around. The movement and contact will reassure them. Sound may help. Run the vacuum, turn on a humidifier, turn on the dryer, etc. Steady sound may help your baby fall asleep.Introduce a pacifier, lay your baby tummy down across your knees and rub their back. The pressure on their abdomen may relieve the pain. Swaddle them tightly in a warm blanket to increase the feeling of security.
