How To Design Your Own Shoes
You could be the next Mr Nike…
Shoes are big business. Most of us have feet and we rely on shoes to help protect them from the ground as we walk about. Before shoes were invented countless people died from injuries to the bottom of their feet and now after a few hours walking round shops at the weekend, you may even feel like you could do the same. We spent millions of pounds a year on new shoes in the UK whether we have sore feet or not.

So how would you like to get in on these millions of pounds by designing and selling your very own make of shoes? Think about it now, there is no doubt that you can come up with something. Here is some advice on how to get your shoes up and running…

Original concept

The most important thing you need to do in order for your shoes to be a hit is to make sure they offer something completely unique that will change people's lives. Yes this does sound quite impossible but the difference doesn't have to involve coming up a whole new way of walking, it just has to offer something that all other shoes don't. This could be anything from a unique brand name or combination of colours, all the way up to something like a double heeled stiletto.

Marketing

Once you have your world beating idea, you need to get a prototype made up and start marketing it. If you have ever seen Dragon's Den or The Apprentice you will have some idea of the sort of things you need to be doing. Get an advert together, pitch your idea to some industry heads and start a social buzz about your new mens trainers. If you can, try and get a celebrity to wear your shoes and tell everyone about it. Record companies have done this to great affect by sponsoring top bands to wear their Dr Martens boots and tailoring their marketing campaigns around them.

Manufacture and Distribution

Once you have a healthy buzz going and everyone knows about your amazing new shoes you need to make them in bulk and get them out there. It is a good idea to make sure whoever you get to make them treat and pay their workers properly as sweatshop media scandals are bad for business. Next you need to get your shoes in the right kind of shops which you may have covered when talking to industry professionals.

Get on it and start walking tall!
