A pre-game to seasonal insects
When avoiding insects such as mosquitos and ticks, common sense is as good a guide as any. To keep away ticks, wear long pants and long sleeve shirts. Pull your socks up over your pants cuffs and always take a nice warm shower using soap to wash away any infected areas.
For Mosquitos, keep screens on windows and doors during season so that none shall get in your home and raise havoc while people and even little ones sleep. A good rule of thumb is to cover your baby carriages with mosquito netting depending on how bad your area is and how close you live to water during those very hot days. Always know your insects, in most cases mosquitos like water at dusk and ticks like tall untended grass and thrive in the forest. Nutritionally, you can drink a tablespoon of organic apple cider vinegar along with eating garlic which will keep these insects at a minimum. When fooling around with herbs, just mix and match and see what works best for you because everyones different. Burning herbs works quite well instead of hanging them in your home or campsite, along with incense sticks or burners.
In case you were wondering, female mosquitos are the only ones that bite because they need a specific blood to develop fertile eggs, so not everyone is bitten and scientist are not quite sure as to why that is yet. Another interesting fact about mosquitos, is that they are attracted to carbon dioxide that us humans give off. So for instance, if your outside running around and having a good old time but sweating and wondering why you are getting attacked by female mosquitos, it is because your body is giving off carbon dioxide and they can smell you from up 50 meters away.
Ticks on the other hand, you should never wear dark clothing when out hiking in tall grass areas because they are attracted to dark colors. Instead, wear light colored clothing because they are easy to find if they so choose to wind up on you. Natural remedies for keeping ticks at bay and off of you is to fill a spray bottle with water and add a few drops of palmarosa and lemon essential oils to it. Spritz the mixture over your clothing and allow to dry. To keep them off of your skin, just take a sliced lemon and pour boiling water over top lemon into a bowl and let cool. Then pour into a spray bottle and use as needed when in the woods or before you take off for your adventure. This repellent keeps ticks away along with other insects including mosquitos.
