The Lowest Priced Tours on Grand Canyon Helicopters
Would you love to take a helicopter tour of the Grand Canyon, but have a limited budget? I always suggest looking into the air-only versions. Here are some things to consider when shopping for affordable Grand Canyon tours.
The air-only tours, or aerial tours as they are sometimes called, just fly over the Grand Canyon and do not land there. Landing tours, on the other hand, land on the canyon bottom or at the top of the rim. All landing tours begin in Las Vegas because they're only allowed at Grand Canyon West (the West Rim).
Air Tour Options
The aircraft used in these tours depart from airfields in the Vegas metro area and Tusayan, Arizona, which is near the main gates at the South Rim. All Tusayan helicopter tours cover the South Rim, all Vegas flights do Grand Canyon West.
If you plan to tour the South Rim, you get to choose between a half hour tour or one that lasts almost an hour. The shorter one is an exciting rim-to-rim flight from the South Rim to the North Rim and back. In addition to covering the same ground, the fifty-minute flight takes you over to the east boundary of the Park too.
If you want to go to the West Rim, you will depart from one of the airfields around Vegas such as the executive strip in Henderson and the one in Boulder City. All of these flights pass over spectacular scenery and notable landmarks such as Lake Mead, Hoover Dam, and the Skywalk before circling over the West Rim and returning to Vegas.
If you decide to take a tour to the South Rim, you need to make your own arrangements for getting to Tusayan, but if you go to the West Rim, the tours provide free pick up and drop off service to your hotel. Most of these tours have all the charges included such as the Park fees and taxes. And, because aerial helicopter tours don't include any side excursions or other extras, they're usually the cheapest.
Grand Canyon Landing Tours
You will have a fantastic time on an aerial tour. However, you should consider a landing tour if you can swing it. They offer a much more comprehensive canyon experience. Your chopper can take you right to the bottom of the canyon where a champagne picnic awaits. That particular tour is so popular, the seats fill up fast. The flight that's packaged with a rafting tour is another great choice, but so is the one that includes tickets to the Grand Canyon Skywalk.
Tickets
I suggest booking a week before the tour date you want (two weeks ahead is even better, especially for summer or holiday tours). That way you won't have to worry about tours being sold out, plus you will get a better price.
The lowest prices on tours of the Grand Canyon are found online. Plus it is more convenient to buy your tickets online. Look for special deals and you might get as much as 30% off the price of your seats. Even if you don't find the right tour there, you'll still get a low Internet rate on the tour you do want.
Quick Recap
Tours on Grand Canyon helicopters aren't cheap, but the aerial type will always be the least expensive. They give you a great overview of the region, but if you want something more up close and personal, choose a landing tour. They cost more, but the price is worth it. No matter what you decide, book your seats online. That ensures you get the absolute best price on whatever tour you pick!
