Kids Rule at One Sunshine Coast Optometrist

by Matthew Carleton

Visiting any one of the sunshine coast optometrist practices may be formidable to a child. Testing children is completely different to examining an adult. Some kids are defiant, some don't understand what you are asking and some squirm and wriggle when we try and take a look at them.

One Sunshine Coast Optometrist Loves Children!

Darin Browne is one sunshine coast optometrist who loves testing children. With years of experience, he has seen all of it and knows all the things there's to know about how to get sensible and legitimate answers from a child, irrespective of how young they are.

Darin and his spouse run Lily House, a home for pregnant youngsters and young moms, in addition to his optometry work. This means he isconstantly around children and their concerned mothers, and knows how to communicate with both.

Being a behavioural optometrist means you really have to love testing children. In children, especially those with learning disabilities, you must test them in a special manner, not deal with them like little versions of adults.

"The concern with children isn't whether they can see, because clearly most of them can," says Darin, "The real problem for them is how they perform at school. Misreading words, skipping phrases or lines and poor concetration when studying are the urgent issues."

One Sunshine Coast Optometrist Goes Further

It takes time, expertise and an awesome rapport with children to check a child's eyes properly. In almost evey occasion it is better to check with the eyes in a pure state, not with drops. Drops serve to paralyse the focussing processes of the eyes, and that's exactly the place most children have issues!

So to get an excellent end result with a child, one sunshine coast optometrist goes further and does extra to check children's eyes, including analysis of the focussing, eye coordination and eye motion systems, in addition to visual perception and examining how the kid processes their school environment.

Children should be treated in a special manner, not like they are little adults. So do not simply see any old optometrist. If you are concerned about your child's vision, and their school efficiency, take them to a behavioural optometrist.
