Quit Smoking but Not Yet!
Smoking is the biggest killer on the planet. Other killers such as wars, Aids, famine, drugs, and road accidents pale into insignificance compared with the perfectly legal activity of cigarette smoking!
If smoking was just invented,the companies who sell the cigarettes would be banned in most civilised countries.
However, as we all know the tobacco industry is so strong in western countries, that it has a powerful hold over governments and complete bans are unlikely.
Nevertheless,pressure from voters and the medical profession has resulted in health warnings on cigarette packets and bans on smoking in certain public places such as restaurants.
The tobacco industry has noted the power of the anti-smoking lobby in the West, and has switched its cigarette marketing to Non-Western countries. In particular, they have targetted Eastern European, Latin America, and the more affluent countries in Asia and parts of Africa. As is well known, these countries have little anti-smoking legislation.
As well as the marketing propaganda of the tobacco lobby, we have the claims of the anti-smoking industry which also rakes in billions in the form of expensive pills, patches, inhalers, supplements and gums in a battle to save lives and increase profits.
The success rate of the quit-smoking industry is not high because the focus is in the wrong place. The main reason why most people fail to quit is the continual prpoaganda from the tobacco and pharmaceutical industries which suggests smokers are so heavily addicted that they cannot quit.
The message is clear. Between keeping you smoking and quitting, the tobacco and pharmaceutical industries have a vested interest in having you as a paying customer. And thereby maintaining the economic success of these corporations!
