Educational Videos For Your Child
One of the challenge questions we face as parents is what good does a television brings to children? As parents, we are advised to limit children’s viewing of television because it might not bring good to them at all. Sometimes there are risks to watching televisions such as disobedience, and attention deficiency. So this is one definite topic worth discussing about.
I normally would allow my three year old son to watch television or video shows. Programs need to be selected carefully making sure that what you want them to watch is in line on what you want them to learn. A good way is to make it a secondary tool or as a reinforcement tool of all lessons that they learn from school and from personally teaching them. A good way to watch television is to watch with your children and try to explain and clarify what he did not understand.
A good example worth sharing is when my son started to point different parts of his body my loving husband and myself would teach him what the corresponding word is to describe it. Such as when pointing to his head, it is important to repeat over and over again the word – head. To use these words again and again we often use colorful and attractive children’s books to put it on my son’s mind. Plus a kiddy video of kids singing “My toes, my knees, my shoulders, my head” then you have a wonderful child who can put all these body parts images and words together.
What is best for my kid might not be the best tool for other kids to learn. But what we are trying to imply is children like any other human being learn in several ways. So introducing them to these various media is a tool definitely worth trying. Such as the books, music, videos, toys, and of course the right television program can definitely assist these children in their life long journey to adulthood.
Another way children learn as evident when you go around a school playground is through other children. Children follow one another as in my son’s case I do usually go with him to playgroups and extracurricular activities like tumbling and swimming classes. It is through this interaction that his desire increases by wanting to communicate with other children. As we own several kids videos at his age, his desire increased even more to interact – sing, dance, and even showing highlights of respect and good manners. The programs have definitely been a positive enhancement not just with me as their parents, but at home and play as well.
The lesson here is that at the end of the day it is not that television is bad for the kids. Television should not be kept away from children. But what they are watching and how they are guided by parents is all that matters. Because parents act as the caregiver to explain and clarify what children see. And as my realization, everything is just a matter of perspective. I am not saying I am an expert on this subject matter about parenting. But my experience has tremendously worked for me and I hope you learn some parenting tips.
