Throw A Sylish 50th Birthday Party

by Gail Leino

A 50th birthday is a cause to celebrate. 50 is a great age, some even call it the golden age. Why not celebrate a 50th birthday party in a spectacular, lavish fashion?

Let the imagination run wild with ideas for a 50th party. First, select a party theme fitting for a 50th birthday party. A theme can include anything that reflects the birthday persons taste. Party themes range from sci-fi, western, luau, rock n' roll, and sports related party themes.

Another option for a 50th birthday party is a 1950's party theme. Select party supplies and decorations associated with the 1950's such as cutouts of records, jukeboxes, inflatable guitars (or real guitars if possible), 50's movie and car posters, celebrities (Marilyn Monroe, James Dean), and sports car standees. Include 50's only music along with tableware items of blue, hot pink, and black & white checkered patterns. Everything needed to throw a 1950's is readily available.

There are lots of other options for those about to celebrate a "fab" 50th birthday. Those who are turning 50 in 2011 or the coming years can use this opportunity to celebrate a 50th birthday from the year of their birth, 1961. Play music only from 1961, movies, and decorate with movie, celebrities, and other pop culture images from that year. A retro candy box with various candies from 1961 is also nice party favors for guests as well.

Remember to let they guest know in the invitation that it will be a themed party. Suggest guests wear period clothing along with the prudent information.

Never underestimate the amount of living that has gone into 50 years and incorporate that into the party games like, True or False. Have the birthday boy or girl right down some stores (two true and one false) and see if the guests can decipher which is the false statement. Other guests can participate as well. While there might be no winner to this game, it will surely generate a few laughs and surprises.

Guess The Age: 50 years is a lot of time to accumulate many photos from the previous years. Gather a collection of the celebrant's photos through the years and post them on a board or wall. Have guests try to guess the ages in each photo without going over. The guest closet to the age is the winner.
