Short Term Disability Can Help Your Family For Now If You Become Injured Or Sick

by Andrew Bui

"You can usually collect on your short term disability insurance if you have to miss work for sickness, surgery, pregnancy, extended doctor visits and hospitalization. This is however the reason we pay into our insurance for every pay period. When we have to use it we need to understand it. You will be able to collect those benefits for as long as a 24 month period.

The only real disadvantage of getting short term disability insurance is that you will only get 2/3 of what your pay used to be. Granted that will not cover all of your bills, but at least it is something to try to keep your family out of dangerous situations. Once an illness occurs and you go out on disability you are required a waiting period of 7 days before you can collect anything. But you can have benefits start right away if you are hurt.

This can be a devastating blow to your family's finances though because most Americans are now living pay check to pay check. Plus the fact that they do not have any cushion to fall back on when something this devastating happens. There is definitely hardship all over the country and it is not looking promising unfortunately any time soon.

To make matters worse, sometimes there is nothing that you can do to collect from your insurance and this can wreak havoc on families. What are you going to do to pay for your house, car, insurance and any other expenses that come along with keeping a household together? The things that you have worked so hard for could all disappear really quickly when you find yourself in such a situation.

There really is nothing that you can do about this tragic situation; Americans are going through this sort of thing every day. There is only so much time that you can collect and once it ends what are you going to do then and where is the money going to come from for everything? What are you going to do about your bills? These are some hard questions but you have to ask yourself and be prepared for the consequences because it will happen eventually.

You need to make plans for everything and that takes into account pregnancy. Most insurance doesn't cover everything for maternity leave and infertility so you should get additional infertility insurance and maternity. So make sure that you weigh all of your options before you start your family."
