When Will A Taxi Driver Accept A Drunken Passenger?

Too boozy – taxi no moovy…

by Sam Qam

A very common dilemma faced by taxi drivers every day of the week and especially at the weekend is whether or not to take drunken passengers. The worst fear is that the fare will end up being sick all over the inside of the car or that they will end up passing out and become in need of medical assistance. They may also be afraid that the person will run off without paying or even become violent when faced with the cost of the ride.

All of these worries make the taxi drivers decision quite easy normally – if you're drunk then you don't get in. But there must be some occasions when a taxi driver feels that they should make an exception. Here are what some of those scenarios might be:

When they pay up front

No matter how bad someone is, if they pay their fare up front then the driver may think that that is the hard part done. With the money in their hand and if they know where they are going then they may just accept a drunken passenger.

Girl on their own

More often than not a taxi driver will make a particular exception to their no drunks rule when the drunk in question is a young or vulnerable looking girl. Females on their own may be an easy target for criminals on the street so with this in mind the moral mind of the taxi driver may kick in and offer them a safe way home, even if they are drunk.

Miles from anywhere

Similarly anyone who is in a vulnerable position may be able to sway the mind of a taxi driver. For instance if one of the Belfast International Airport Taxis were to pass a drunken person out on a country road, they may be tempted to stop and give them a lift just because they are in some danger. Belfast taxis will have a policy on drunken passengers as will any other taxi firms but their drivers may all make exceptions in this sort of situation especially if there are a few people in danger and they are an 8 seater taxi Belfast.

Very very drunk

One final exception they may make is if the person is so drunk that they are actually in fear for their life. No matter how much someone is throwing up and falling around the place, if the taxi driver is really concern that the person is in physical danger they may give them a ride, though this lift may be to the hospital and not to their front door.
