Do You Want To Keep Your Website Visitors Or Not?

Online users are fussy…

by Sam Qam

Well do you? One of the major goals of any website or ecommerce store is indeed to keep customers on their website. This is before they look at any products, before they click anything and well before they actually buy anything at all.

Thanks to the rapid nature of the internet it is becoming harder and harder to get users to stick around when there are so many sites out there to choose from. If you site fails in any way then you will have little chance of getting your visitor to stick around long enough to work out how to get round any problems before they simply hit that back button and disappear forever.

So what can you do to make sure your customers stick around?

Be Fast and Reliable

One of the first things you need to do is to make sure that your website loads quickly and that everything works as it is supposed to. If people have to wait for more than a few seconds for your page to load then you can be assured that they will be off. Likewise if they click on a link on your homepage and it doesn't take them where it says it will or doesn't work at all, then again, they will be off like a shot.

Look Smart

People don't like and don't trust shabby looking websites. If people arrive at your website and it doesn't look like a modern and trustworthy site then they will leave. This is especially true if you are hoping to get them to part with their financial or personal details. Do you have a boxy frames layout? Does your site look like a 90's dance CD advert? If so then you need to upgrade.

Be Clear What You Are

As soon as someone arrives at your site they need to know what it is you are selling immediately. If it is not 100% clear exactly what they can get from your site then they may well turn round and leave. Make sure your name and logo are clear, provide a subheading or tagline that sums up what you offer and why you are different in a few words and offer a clear list or menu which covers everything they can do, find, buy or see on your site. Make the details of your card processing and general payment processing policies clear also.

If you get all these things sorted then your website stands a good chance of keeping your visitors on there long enough that they might just spend some money or do whatever it is you are hoping they will do.
