Important Things to Consider in Catalog Printing

by Brad Kartel

Many people in the world are into crafts either as a hobby, a business, or just a therapy. Some of them go to stores to get their supplies but there are those who rely on printed and online catalogs to make their orders. That is why craft catalog printing is very common. Business owners know the need and therefore regularly publish their own, like every month, every quarter, or every season.

If you are still starting your crafts business and you have not had catalogs made yet, then it is time for you to consider publishing one and making it your main marketing tool. And since you are selling something that is related to creativity, you have the pressure of coming up with beautiful designs. Consider the following points in catalog printing.

1. Photos. Crafts items are hard to explain but if you have photos of each and every single item that you have, the easier it is for your readers to know what you are selling. Make the descriptions as brief as possible, including only those that could not be shown on the photos. When you are done with the photography, upload your digital photos on the computer for easy access and for storage.

2. Program. You can use Microsoft Word to make your own catalog. Start your contents on page 3. Reserve the first page for the cover and the second page for your table of contents and maybe an introductory message.

3. Organize. Do not lump all your products together but instead categorize them based on kind, material, or possibly price. It really depends upon you as long as you have classification of some sort. These sections make it easier for the reader to go through the catalog for craft supplies that they need.

Organization does not only apply on the whole booklet but also on each page. You have to organize where the pictures and the text should be so that each page will not appear cluttered and confusing.

4. Text. Although you will not need a lot of texts, you will still need to write a short description of each picture. You may want to include the materials used, the colors available, or maybe the sizes. Make sure that you include the exact measurements of your products so that there will be no surprises when the items are shipped to your clients. And more importantly, you need to have a unique selling proposition on the cover. That should attract your potential clients to open the catalog.

5. Discounts. People like to buy things at a discounted rate. You may want to have a “Specials of the month” section or you may just offer a bulk discount, like 10% purchase of $100 or more. You may also opt to have a promo, like if they buy 10 pieces of certain items, then they get one free. Or you may offer free shipping on some conditions. These discounts and freebies are supposed to encourage people to buy more.

6. PDF File. Save a PDF file of your catalog so that you can upload it online and it cannot be tampered. Or you may want to print several copies of your catalogs for mailing out to your clients. So whether you are going to pursue catalog printing or just upload your design online, the above elements will surely work for you.
