Dangers Of Teen Driving

The driving experience of teenagers has not been a good one. In the UK, only about seven out of every 100 members of the population are teenagers, but they are involved in between 14 and 15 percent of vehicular deaths. Car accidents have become the major death factor for young people in their teenage years. Over 3000 teenagers died in car crashes in 2001. Now, 16 year old females are as likely to die as males of the same age. From 1990 to 2000, the fatality rate of girls increased 4 percent. The reason is that parents are allowing their teenage daughters to get behind the wheel more often so their risk has increased. This is not a rosy picture of the teen driving experience. This fatal driving experience is hurting other people as well. There are many people who fatally injured in car accidents involving teenagers. Statisticians believe teen accidents have become a rising epidemic. 36 percent of the teen crashes in 2000 happened because they were drinking. 58 percent of teens who crashed in 2000 were traveling at high rates of speed when the accident occurred.One reason for the bad teen driving experience is that it requires several years before driving becomes an automatic, instinctive response.
