The Compounded Result of "Insignificant" Daily Action
The fact is we all have twenty-four hours in a day and the only difference between the successful and the not so successful is how they spend that time. People who are successful in business and in life spend their time each day engaging in activities that move them forward and allow them to make progress. People who are not successful do not, it’s that simple. The fact is the world and the people in it are constantly changing. Even if it’s by the tiniest bit, people are either progressing or regressing. The fact is the small seemingly meaningless decisions you make today that you don’t think really matter when compounded over time have a dramatic effect on where you end up in the future. This concept applies to nearly every facet of life. The following is one of my favorite examples that illustrate how the compounded effect of small daily decisions can really add up and be either to your advantage or disadvantage depending on which action you choose. If I read 10 pages of a quality person development or motivational book today and you do not, will there be any real difference between us in the way we think? No. If I read 10 more pages tomorrow and you do not, any difference? No. Now if I continue this simple action of reading 10 pages of a quality personal development book each day for the next year and you do not, will there be any difference? ABSOLUTELY! I will have read 3650 pages of quality material that will have most likely drastically improved my thinking and attitude and you will be in the same place or your thinking will have worsened. This simple action which, in the short term, seems to make no difference at all has an enormous effect when compounded over time. You can apply this idea which Jeff Olson calls “the slight edge” to every facet of your life and achieve drastically more if you understand that the small decisions you make everyday add up. Imagine how much healthier our country would be if everyone applied this concept to their health and exercised for 20 minutes 3 or 4 times a week. Imagine how much more financially stable our country would be if people just saved an extra 100 or 200 dollars per month. Now think about this concept with respect to your business. How could you put this concept to work for you and transform your future? There are simple actions that you can choose to take or not take on a daily basis and they won’t make or break you today, tomorrow, or a week from now. But I promise you, 1, 5, 10 years from now the sum of those simple seemingly insignificant actions are going to result in prosperity and success or misery and failure. Think of your life and business like a stock. Now given the actions you took today, would your stock have gone up or down? The decisions and choices you make everyday are what determine weather or not your stock goes up or down. Choose wisely for if you do, the compounded effect of these small daily choices that made you and your business just a little better today will result in you being prosperous and successful in the future. So many people discount the importance of small seemingly insignificant choices. The fact is in the long run when compounded over time these choices are anything but insignificant; they determine weather you’re a success or a failure. So resolve to improve your personal stock and that of your business on a daily basis. The results of the small decisions and actions will put you in a far more happy and prosperous place than you are currently.
