When my husband and I were moving house last year from sunny California all the way up to Michigan, packing up our stuff and transporting it across the country was the biggest headache we had to face. As we looked around our house, we realized the over the years, we had accumulated a lot of things. Transporting everything was impossible; yet where could we hope to store our things for a few months or even years till we needed them?

That was when we came across the concept of a self storage facility. And transporting your belongings can be a breeze with a lot of these storage spaces even providing a free truck service as a move to attract customers.

If you are unable to locate a good storage facility that provides this service, you need not worry. Most of the time, these structures can usually be found in and around residential areas so you will not have to drive a long distance to deposit all your stuff in the storage unit.

The security features in these storage areas are state-of-the-art, including surveillance cameras, computerized access, thumbprint scanners, and fire alarms. In fact, these units are typically built of corrugated metal so you do not have to worry about the risk of fire.

And what reassured me even more when placing my valuables in our storage unit was the discovery that a lot of retail businesses also use such facilities to store their goods.
